1982 All Whites Miss Out On 2006 World Cup Finals June 29, 2006

(Auckland NZ – Press) Despite constant media referencing and a forward attack lead by Wynton Rufer, the 1982 All Whites have yet again failed to make the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup.
Blaming New Zealand’s obsession with rugby “even though football is the world’s most popular sport”, Manager John Adshead reflected for about the millionth time on how well his team clicked and how amazing it was to lead the country’s first team of footballers to a World Cup finals.
“I think the 1982 team is the kind of team that we can keep talking about incessantly for decades to come,” said Adshead.
“I look forward to going on and on about us again in South Africa in 2010.”
Rufer agrees. Although the three matches in Spain ‘82 took a combined total of around four hours to play across one week, he has been interviewed about them for around 200 hours across 24 years, and sees no reason to stop now.
“Our dismal defeat is an inspiration to New Zealand’s tens and tens of eager young footballers,” said Rufer.
“We proved that if you have low expectations, any achievement can be considered a victory. The 1982 All Whites might have lost out again in Germany, but we really expected to do much worse, so overall that’s a net positive outcome.”

Southerners Going Feral After Ten Days Without Power June 23, 2006

(Fairlie NZ -Press) Southern farmers, some of them without power for over ten days, are embracing unwholesome, alternative lifestyles in an attempt to keep warm as icy conditions persist.
“This isn’t too bad,” said Twizel shearer Fungus (formerly Graham) Davies, of his new hobbies of fire-poi twirling and bucket-bong smoking.
“We were all freezing a few nights ago, and then someone found these poi things and a big bag of pot in an abandoned van. Usually we don’t go in for that sort of thing around here, but they keep us warm and the lights are pretty, so I’m happy.”
Local civic leaders and constabulary are concerned at their once blue-belted neighbours’ degeneration into loved-up pill-popping.
“I understand it’s cold and dark, but this is just too much,” said MacKenzie District Council Mayor, John O’Neill.
“Everyone’s stopped feeding out and they’ve taken up snow-sculpture and capoeira. Sure the pubs have all been shut for days due to the weather, but if I have to listen to one more Jack Johnson bonfire singalong, I may kill someone.”
Locals remain unperturbed.
Ed Sanson, a sharemilker of Fairlie, has built a giant Wickerman out of scavenged wood, which he intends to burn tonight at a pagan bacchanal organised by a growing group of wild-eyed South Canterbury farm and orchard workers.
“We’ll be burning stuff, obviously,” said Sanson, “but there’ll also be some solstice rituals, a bit of Wiccan and hopefully, later on, a huge fuck-fest behind the coat-check. Toasty…”
